Flying dinosaurs beginning with the letter Y is going to be a short look, though not the shortest of the letters! As there are only two pterosaurs discovered so far that start with Y!
Both were impressive in their ways, so while they may be close to the back of the alphabet, they are not at the back of the list for impressive flying dinosaurs!

Name: Yelaphomte

Yelaphomte
Name meaning: Beast of the Air
Yelaphomte, is a late Triassic pterosaur and flying dinosaur from Argentina. Although the fossil is small, it may have been a juvenile and been larger later in life.
It was discovered quebrada del Barro in Argentina, and was small although the exact size in unknown.
As with most Triassic Pterosaurs it would have had a carnivorous diet, and being small would have been prey for other animals as well.
Yelaphomte’s had a crest on the top of its head / snout that was likely used for display. Made it look a little like a flying Ceratosaurus!

Yixianopterus
Name meaning: Sun Zhenyuan wing
Yixianopterus, a pterosaur that once soared the prehistoric skies during the Early Cretaceous period. about 120 million years ago. Not a great deal is known due to limited fossils but its wings were preserved.
Yixianopterus is thought to be a medium sized pterosaur, with cone shaped teeth about 1/4 of an inch long. its wingspan is estimated to be about 2 metres (6 feet) long.
As there were plenty of forests and rivers in the area at the time it is thought that this pterosaur likely ate carrion and insects with its long thin mouth.

So far there have been only two flying dinosaurs or pterosaurs found that start with the letter Y, One in China and one in Argentina – the Yixianopterus and the Yelaphomte’s ,
Both are fairly unresearched at the moment and we hope that more information and images will be coming soon.
